It's no secret that Miami Beach exists as one of the world's barometers for things edgy and cool, so it shouldn't surprise that, come December, thousands of serious art collectors, curators, designers and artists descend upon the city for this renowned international show, whose varied program also includes panel discussions, guided tours, film screenings, concerts and, of course, countless high-brow parties. Most of the city's top galleries get into the spirit of the event, and several designated exhibit sites are located in the Art Deco District. The original Art Basel, held each year in Basel, Switzerland, has long been regarded as Europe's premiere contemporary art fair.
